The Project
A restoration project for the rural memory of Pietraperciata
The project, funded under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan – NextGenerationEU, concerns the restoration and enhancement of key elements of the architecture and rural landscape historically present on the Pietraperciata farm estate, just outside Taormina.
The intervention fits into a long-standing agricultural setting, marked by cultivation systems, rural infrastructure and structures serving the management of production activities and natural resources, especially water and soil.

The project restores partially deteriorated historic structures and preserves their architectural value, giving back dignity to the elements that tell the agricultural identity of the Pietraperciata estate.
The works restore clarity to dry stone walls, saie and rural paths, making the link between crops, water management and soil care understandable again.
The restored assets become part of a visitable route, designed to convey the memory of historic farming practices and the deep bond between people, work and the land.
Project use
NextGenerationEU Project Goal
From the outset, the NextGenerationEU project has been conceived as a public asset, open and visitable through a route that includes the museum space, the restored rural landscape features and the internal paths. Visits are available by reservation and are organized to ensure an orderly, aware experience compatible with the protection of the site. Booking will be available via an online booking system, through which it will be possible to check visiting options, availability and calendars. The visiting experience is supported by interpretation tools, information panels and digital content accessible via QR code, designed to make it easier to understand the places and the works carried out.

The restoration carried out with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU forms part of the broader context of the Pietraperciata Estate, within which the landscape project known as Giardini Victoria is also developed.
Since 2021, through investments entirely private and independent of the present funding, the estate’s hillsides have undergone ornamental and botanical enhancement.
The two initiatives pursue different objectives:
the former safeguards historic rural architecture and traditional agricultural practices;
the latter interprets the landscape through a contemporary cultural and ornamental approach.
Although separate in nature and in their sources of funding, both contribute to strengthening the identity, historical continuity and economic value of the Pietraperciata Estate.
